“Hvor kjærlighet er…” Familieforestilling

«Hvor kjærlighet er…» En konsertforestilling i Oslo domkirke, 8. juni 17.00 og 9. juni kl. 15.00 og 17.00.

World premiere of the cantata “Hvor kjærlighet er..” (Where love is..) by Gisle Kverndokk and Aksel-Otto Bull, based on the story by Leo Tolstoy. "Where love is..." A concert performance in Oslo Cathedral, 8 June 17.00 and 9 June at 15.00 and 17.00.

"Martin was a shoemaker. He lived in a small basement room in a small town, where everyone knew everyone."

This is how this story begins about the shoemaker who has lost his wife and children and is therefore never happy. He asks himself: "Why should I live?" The story is based on Leo Tolstoy's version of an old fairy tale, and is here adapted by librettist Aksel-Otto Bull. Gisle Kverndokk has composed the music. Together, they have created a work that is a warm communication of charity and tells how God shows himself where "where love is..."

Throughout the 45 minutes the performance lasts, the Oslo Domkor and the musicians take us into the story of the shoemaker. Among other things, we hear about his meeting with the old soldier, the poor mother and her child, the market wife and the apple thief, and how the shoemaker, by showing love for his fellow men, himself meets God and receives recognition for his charity. The theme is timeless and always relevant, even now with war close at hand and where what binds our society together is constantly being challenged. In a world of discord and evil, we need to hold on to the will to meet each other with acts of love.
